MISG MIGRATES ITS TRANSNET® NETWORK TO THE INTERNET: IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL TRANSNET CLIENTS

This summer, the network over which TRANSNET orders are delivered is migrating to the Internet to provide improved flexibility to automotive aftermarket suppliers and to provide continued first-rate service to distributors for the delivery of purchase orders.

MISG is implementing the migration through July to TRANSNET clients utilizing asynch, bisynch and FTP communication methods. Letters were mailed in May to all TRANSNET clients with notification of the migration and the appropriate actions to take. This information also is available at the MISG Web site, www.misg.com .

Aftermarket warehouse distributors and retailers will continue using their current TRANSNET delivery method. In most cases, the migration requires a phone number change (asynch) or simple script change (ftp). For aftermarket suppliers utilizing TRANSNET, migration to the Internet can expand their service's flexibility and accessibility. Also, TRANSNET suppliers may choose to eliminate their TRANSNET mailboxes and route all TRANSNET orders though ANSINET®, MISG's Value Added Network, or TransLink®, MISG's Internet EDI Network, simplifying their connectivity infrastructure and overall e-commerce environment.

The migration will affect aftermarket suppliers utilizing third party VAN connectivity as well. Documents will be delivered via interconnects to third party VANs. To eliminate the requirement for an interconnect to a third party VAN, suppliers can use FTP to pull TRANSNET orders. Specific instructions on the changes required by suppliers utilizing third party connectivity also are available via the MISG Web site.

It is essential that all TRANSNET clients that have not yet implemented the necessary changes contact MISG Client Services immediately. Specific instructions per communication method for all TRANSNET clients are available at www.misg.com/TN/index.html.

TRANSNET has been the aftermarket's premiere method for transmitting electronic purchase orders for almost 30 years. The system enables distributors and retailers to create paperless purchase orders and deliver them to aftermarket manufacturers. During the nineties, TRANSNET grew to become one of the most wide-spread EDI systems for a specific supply chain- the automotive aftermarket. Ten years later, the service continues to be used by thousands of distributors, retailers and manufacturers and remains the aftermarket's most widely-used EDI system.

NEW SOLUTION FACILITATES SPECIAL ORDERS WITH MULTIPLE TRADING PARTNERS VIA A SINGLE INTERNET CONNECTION

For distributors, the days of contacting multiple manufacturers by phone for special orders are over. MISG's new solution, DIRECT-CONNECT®, is being released this summer to enable distributors and manufacturers to employ Internet parts ordering (IPO) with multiple trading partners via a single connection for special orders.

DIRECT-CONNECT facilitates part inquiries, quotes, orders, order acknowledgements and shipment status. The IPO solution simplifies the procurement process for distributors by eliminating multiple phone calls or manufacturer Web site visits for sourcing special orders.

Previously, distributors would contact manufacturers either through a manufacturer's extranet application or customer support call center to place special orders. This process often necessitated multiple Internet connections or several phone calls between the distributor and manufacturer to place a special order.

The DIRECT-CONNECT application utilizes a Web-based front end to connect a distributor with multiple manufacturers for part inventory inquiries and quotes and to facilitate Internet order processing. The application provides distributors access to multiple suppliers' inventory and ordering systems 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

For manufacturers, the solution provides client software to link their ERP systems with multiple distributors, including those utilizing the DIRECT-CONNECT application and those employing custom IPO applications. This helps manufacturers automate their customer support processes, reduce inefficiencies and improve accuracy through elimination of manual steps. The solution also provides a gateway for manufacturers with custom IPO applications to access multiple distributors utilizing the DIRECT-CONNECT application.

The DIRECT-CONNECT solution utilizes industry standards to promote open and efficient communications across a wide variety of platforms. The solution initially is being released in the automotive aftermarket, but will be rolled out to other industries as well.

"Although Internet parts ordering is becoming more mainstream, a significant number of companies still are unable to access the IPO community," said Al Jones, president of MISG. "DIRECT-CONNECT provides these companies with a gateway to their industry's IPO community as well as applications to access business partners utilizing Internet parts ordering."

The new DIRECT-CONNECT solution is part of MISG's growing suite of solutions, which includes TransLink® (Internet EDI), TransLink® WebDX (browser-based EDI application) and ANSINET® (Value Added Network).

To learn more about the DIRECT-CONNECT options available to your company or industry, contact Earl Losey, vice president, sales at (919) 406-8829 or sales@misg.com.

LEADING PLUMBING AND HVAC BUYING GROUP SELECTS MISG TO PROVIDE EDI SOLUTIONS

WIT, a leading buying group comprised of independent distributors in the plumbing and HVAC industries, recently selected MISG to provide a community-wide EDI enablement program. The partnership of WIT and MISG provides for the transaction of electronic business documents between WIT headquarters, its member distributors and its 300-plus supplier community.

MISG's EDI enablement program for WIT will provide the buying group and its suppliers with a cost-effective Internet-based EDI solution that supports industry-developed EDI guidelines and simplified document translation. TransLink® allows WIT members to exchange business documents without complicated programming and mapping by translating data to a standard format, the American Supply Association Center for Advancing Technology's (ASA CAT) EDIExpress guidelines. These guidelines facilitate quick, cost-effective EDI implementations throughout the plumbing and HVACR industries.

TransLink's on-network translation feature eliminates the requirement for in-house translation software. This will enable WIT members to transact EDI without the need to purchase and maintain separate EDI translation software. Furthermore, TransLink is integrated into several industry warehouse management systems, including Eclipse, Mincron, Prelude and Prophet 21, providing additional benefits to the WIT community. WIT has already made great strides in the arena of EDI and electronic commerce with its members. MISG is a perfect complement to their accomplishments and helps further their strategic initiatives.

MISG has extensive experience providing EDI services to the plumbing and HVAC industries. As a partner of the ASA Center for Advancing Technology for more than seven years, MISG supplies integrated EDI technologies to the plumbing industry, including Value Added Network (VAN), Internet and Web EDI solutions. In 2004, MISG joined forces with the HARDI Center for Advancing Technology to provide similar services and solutions in the HVACR community.

“We view MISG's industry savvy and service offerings as a real asset that broadens our current EDI capabilities” said Jeff Smalley, director of Business Development for WIT. “By partnering with MISG, we can further help our members realize improved business processes throughout the supply chain and added profitability.”

Charles Zweck, Director of MIS for WIT imparted, “WIT is a group of progressive distributors, and that rings true for technology. WIT pursues technology to reduce costs and increase efficiencies, and partnering with MISG complements the systems we have in place and helps us further our long-term electronic commerce initiatives.”

“MISG is pleased to partner with WIT to provide the TransLink EDI solution," said Earl Losey, vice president, sales for MISG. "We view our partnership as an extension of WIT's commitment to meet the needs of its wholesalers and the industry as a whole."

WIT & Co., Ltd. is a member-owned buying group with more than 70 distributor members comprising more than 400 locations nationwide. WIT works with its members to enhance profitability through established vendor programs and distributor networking.
